Here’s a fun interview with Pinback and you can see them perform live.

This a great little tidbit, take a listen. The track is off of Autumn Of The Seraphs (2007), and is titled Bouquet. Pinback contains two main members featured in this video; Armistead Burwell Smith IV (Zach) and Rob Crow. If you want to check out more of these guys visit their website here.

Favorite tracks of the decade

December 27, 2009

Well, I started DJing around 2000 and now its approaching 2010. I thought I should do some of my favorite tracks of the decade. I’m sure this will be an ongoing post that I keep coming back to when I forget about a jem here and there. Also, a lot of my tracks are going to overlap with Rolling Stone and Pitchfork‘s favorites. I don’t mean to step on anyone’s toes, a great track is a great track. Unlike Pitchfork and Roling Stone, I’m going to be different and leave out OutKast from my list and also LCD soundsystem. Not that I don’t think their good, I do actually prefer to listen to OutKast when I’ve had five to many beers, but they just aren’t my favorite. So here we go, I’m going to list these in numerical order (that however does not mean that #1 is my favorite and so on, I’ve never been good at ranking and I’m not going to start trying to do it now.)

1. Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, Fever to Tell (2003), Maps
The New York Times chose this as album of the year, it was nominated for a grammy, and is on Spin’s 100 greatest albums between 1985 and 1995. I bought it for the hearfelt track “Maps”. It’s a brilliant love song, and I’ll even go out on a limb and say its the best of the decade.
2. Animal Collective, Merriweather Post Pavilion (2009), My Girls
This is Animal Collective’s 8th album, check these guys out.
3. M.I.A., Kala (2007), Paper Planes

4. David Byrne & Brian Eno, Everything That Happens Will Happen Today (2008), Strange Overtones
I dare you not to dance:

5. Sufjan Stevens, Illinois (2005), Chicago
6. TV on the Radio, Desperate Youths Blood Thirsty Babes (2004), Staring at the Sun
7. The Arcade Fire, Funeral (2004), Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)
8. Wilco, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (2002), Reservations
In my humble opinion, this is Wilco’s best album.
9. Modest Mouse, Good News For People Who Love Bad News (2004), Float On
10. Spoon, Kill the Moonlight (2002), The Way We Get By
I couldn’t stop playing both the Modest Mouse’s Float On and Spoon’s The Way we Get By for a very long time.

Thank God this beautiful woman brought us another album.

What are some of your favorite tracks over the past 10 years?

It just sounds good together…

September 16, 2009

Usually I try to focus on bringing you tunes from the 80s and 90s, but this week I’m going to do more. I’ve got some great tracks from the early 80s and then some really recent bands and bands from the early 2000s that just go so good with the early new wave and punk sounds. I’m also going to be bringing along some classic late 80s/90s tracks. It will be a fun time.

Listen in tonight on KRUI 89.7 fm or online here. Also my dad is here with me. Here he is eating an ice cream. How cute is this man? And, he’s cool he played Johnny Cash.
