This show is all about love and sweet sounds. Why? Because, I’m in a sappy mood (due to the dream-boat/newly-acquired-fiance featured in the image below). Join me tonight on KRUI 89.7fm or online here.

Mixed Tapes, they will always be cool.

January 25, 2009

My first post today is talking about the art of a mixed tape. This is my favorite gift to get from my friends. First, I don’t have to secretly peruse their music collection to figure out what I need to get them for Christmas. Second, it’s interesting to hear what they think I will enjoy. So, since I love receiving a perfect mixed tape, my favorite gift to give is a mixed tape.

Recently I made a “mixed tape” for a friend’s birthday. When I was a kid, making a mixed tape was difficult, but now a mixed tape is really a cd that can easily be made on itunes or some other sort of program.  The “old” mixed tapes had to be made from records (which I would grab from my parents collection), CDs (which I could never afford), or if you were really poor like me, you had to catch your favorite songs on the radio and hit record. However, times have changed itunes has come into my life along with a small income.  I can spend all my free money on cds, mp3’s and records, and make many mixed CDs for all of my friends if they want one or not.

Here is the HeidiHehnly-Gift-CD that I recently gave to my IC friend:screen-capture1

Reasons for tracks:
1. Everyone wants to be naked.
2. This is one of my all time favorite tracks
3. What a sweet track title? The friend is pretty witty, so I thought she might like this.
4. This band is awesome live.
5. Who doesn’t like Bob Mould?
6. This is the Breeders new album. They are “too cool for school”, just like the friend I gave the CD to.
7. She needs a new Car.
8. She’s going to move away soon for a real job, makes me sad.
9. This song was awesome in Donnie Darko.
10. Elliott Smith couldn’t have written a prettier song. It is lovely.
11. Holiday = Birthday
12. I think she secretly wants to be a Scientist.
13. She likes tracks that tell a story, and I want to have Lou Reed’s child.
14. I just like the song.
15. I like that Nick Cave is singing a love song.
16. She’s an ex-hair model.
17. This song united hipsters everywhere.
18. This is how I feel when people refuse to hang out with me.
19. An all time favorite band of mine. I like to force their music on people.
20. Who wouldn’t want to be a sunbeam?
