Favorite tracks of the decade

Well, I started DJing around 2000 and now its approaching 2010. I thought I should do some of my favorite tracks of the decade. I’m sure this will be an ongoing post that I keep coming back to when I forget about a jem here and there. Also, a lot of my tracks are going to overlap with Rolling Stone and Pitchfork‘s favorites. I don’t mean to step on anyone’s toes, a great track is a great track. Unlike Pitchfork and Roling Stone, I’m going to be different and leave out OutKast from my list and also LCD soundsystem. Not that I don’t think their good, I do actually prefer to listen to OutKast when I’ve had five to many beers, but they just aren’t my favorite. So here we go, I’m going to list these in numerical order (that however does not mean that #1 is my favorite and so on, I’ve never been good at ranking and I’m not going to start trying to do it now.)

1. Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, Fever to Tell (2003), Maps
The New York Times chose this as album of the year, it was nominated for a grammy, and is on Spin’s 100 greatest albums between 1985 and 1995. I bought it for the hearfelt track “Maps”. It’s a brilliant love song, and I’ll even go out on a limb and say its the best of the decade.
2. Animal Collective, Merriweather Post Pavilion (2009), My Girls
This is Animal Collective’s 8th album, check these guys out.
3. M.I.A., Kala (2007), Paper Planes

4. David Byrne & Brian Eno, Everything That Happens Will Happen Today (2008), Strange Overtones

8. Wilco, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (2002), Reservations
In my humble opinion, this is Wilco’s best album.
9. Modest Mouse, Good News For People Who Love Bad News (2004), Float On
10. Spoon, Kill the Moonlight (2002), The Way We Get By
I couldn’t stop playing both the Modest Mouse’s Float On and Spoon’s The Way we Get By for a very long time.

11. Portishead, Third (2008), The Rip
Thank God this beautiful woman brought us another album.

This band  (along with Bright Eyes) took College Radio by storm.
