I’m going to NYC!

June 29, 2009

My special someone, Mike, moved to Brooklyn last Monday, and this coming weekend I’m going to visit him. Not only is it his birthday on the 6th, but coming up is our anniversary. So this week I’m going to do a show around NYC, artists that NYC has embraced, me missing Mike, and maybe a tune about the fact that independence day is coming up.

Here’s a picture of Mike with his little hat:

One of the greatest musicians of my lifetime….

June 25, 2009

Michael Jackson.

He was a musical genius. There are reports that he died today of cardiac arrest. I am at a loss for words. I was hoping he would produce another “Billy Jean”, one of the best POP tracks of all time. I remember sneaking downstairs in the middle of the night when I was a kid to watch the Michael Jackson music video Marathons MTV used to have, and trying to replicate his sweet dance moves. I am so sad.

I leave you with a live performance of Michael Jackson’s Beat it.

Because the Night

June 18, 2009

Here’s three versions by Bruce (featuring R.E.M.), Patti, and 10,000 maniacs (Natalie Merchant).

How cute is the Boss? Seriously and he’s going to do the song with Michael Stipe of R.E.M.

Man this woman rocks. This song was cowritten with Bruce, its beautiful no matter who sings it. It came out in 1978.

I also really enjoy the version by the 10,000 maniacs, here is just Natalie Merchant performing it:
