Sub Pop

This week I’m going to be featuring the record label, Sub Pop. Sub Pop was founded in Seattle, Washington in the mid 80s and rose to fame with bands like Nirvana and Mudhoney. They have also received recent commercial success with bands like the Postal Service and the Shins.

Listen in this Wednesday from 8 to 10 pm on KRUI 89.7 fm.

1. Nirvana’s Bleach (one of their biggest grossers)
2. Postal Service (Ben Gibbard of Death Cab’s side project, The District Sleeps Tonight may have sold more records than Bleach)
3. Mudhoney’s Superfuzz Bigmuff
4. Sunny Day Real estate’s S/T
5. The Afghan Wigs Congregation
6. Sebadoh, Smash Your Head on the Punk Rock
7. Sleater-Kinney’s The Woods (These hot hot girls were mostly with Kill Rock Stars, but their last full length the woods was on Sub Pop.)

9. The Murder City Devil’s Thelema
10. The Jesus and Mary Chain’s Munki
11. The Thermals, More Parts per Million
12. Ugly Casanova’s Sharpen Your Teeth (This is an awesome album, with a weird story. Supposedly, a mentally unstable character named Edgar Graham (who called himself Ugly Casanova) followed Modest Mouse around on tour, recorded songs, sent out the songs to some labels and then mysteriously disappeared. Issac Brock then recorded the songs and Sub Pop released it. Weird.)

13. Low’s The Great Destroyer (this music video is a little weird, but the song is cool.)

14. The Shins Oh, Inverted World
15. Damien Jurado’s Rehersals for Departure
(This is a beautiful singer songwriter, just beautiful)

16. The Vaselines, The way of the vaselines
(A re release of the vaselines awesome tracks, thank you Sub Pop.)
17. Fastbacks’s Zucker
18. Eric’s Trip’s Love Tara
19. Velocity Girl’s Simpatico
20. The Spinanes’s Strand
21. Kinski’s Down Below its Chaos
