Listen to Standing on the Verge, they are the ones that gave me the heads up about this.

Shadows

June 29, 2010

Teenage Fanclub has a new album! It was released May 31st, off of one of my all time favorite labels Merge records. It’s called Shadows.

Here’s a quote from Reid Davis from paste magazine:

Long-running Scots deliver more pop purity.
Even after two decades as a band, it has to be intimidating when Teenage Fanclub’s Norman Blake brings in another hook-laden pop masterpiece, and then Gerard Love or Raymond McGinley have to offer something that matches up.

I’ll leave you with one of their new tracks, Baby Lee.

Twin Falls

I love this Song and I love Built to Spill
Here’s a live version:

(Doug Martsch, the one with the beard, spent part of his childhood in Twin Falls, Idaho. The track is off of There is nothing wrong with love, 1994 Up Records.)

The picture was taken from Analogue.

The Bride Screamed Murder

June 9, 2010

The Melvin’s released a new album entitled The Bride Screamed Murder (Ipecac Recordings). Some of the tracks sound like Adam & the Ants with that sludgey Melvin’s edge that I happen to really like.

Here’s a description from a writer at Chicks with Guns magazine (CWG):

They’ve been described as sounding like an explosion in a machine shop, a drum set falling down stairs, a wolverine and a trout in a blender, ice cream and pickles, talentless geeks and a several other flattering epithets.
King Buzzo describes the Melvins music as Captain Beefheart playing heavy metal… I guess that’s a pretty good description.

If you’ve liked the Melvins over the past 25/26 years they’ve been playing you’re going to love this album.

Here’s a preview of the album I found on you tube:

Nothing Compares 2 U

June 2, 2010

by Sinead O’Conner
I heard it on the radio this morning on my drive in and thought, “Damn this was a good song.”

“Nothing Compares 2 U” is a song written in the 1980s by Prince for The Family. Sinead covered it on her 1990 album I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got.
